Privacy notice
Who is writing this notice. This notice is published by Edgewood Consulting Group, a consultancy that advises manufacturers of packaged consumer goods, and the retailers that sell them, on sales strategy, marketing strategy and analytics. We receive post at 1719 State Route 10, Suite 226, Parsippany, NJ 07054. The notice sets out what we do with personal information in connection with this website and with the outreach we direct at people at other companies by email, telephone or letter. It applies to both, and we have written it so that someone who received an email from us can find in one place what we hold, why, and how to make it stop.
How we approach people at work. Our business depends on speaking with people whose responsibilities touch the kind of projects we carry out: sales, category management, shopper insights, revenue management and related functions at manufacturers and retailers. We write to those people at their work email address, and occasionally we call a business telephone number or send a letter to the business address. We only do this when we have a reasonable basis to think our services might bear on that person's responsibilities. We do not send to personal addresses on purpose, and we stop contacting anyone who tells us they are not interested.
The information we collect about professionals. The records we keep about a person are business records. Where available, they include the person's name, the company they work for, their position there, a work email address, a business telephone number and the address of a professional profile. We also hold information about the company itself, such as its size, the categories it competes in and the retail channels it sells through. We keep notes on public business activity that helps us judge relevance, for example open roles the company has advertised, press coverage and public posts about the company. Before an email goes out we may run a technical check on the address to see whether it is likely to accept mail. Once a conversation starts, we keep the correspondence and our own notes about it. We do not deliberately collect sensitive personal information of any kind, and if we notice we have received some we remove it.
What this website collects. No cookies are set by this site, and no analytics or advertising code runs on it. The hosting service that serves the pages keeps standard technical logs, which typically include the visitor's IP address, the pages requested and the browser type, for security and operational purposes. The typeface on these pages comes from an outside font provider, and when a browser fetches the font that provider receives the visitor's IP address in the ordinary course of serving the file. We do not combine any of this with our records about individuals.
Where the information comes from. Most of what we hold about a person comes from public sources: the websites of the companies concerned, job listings, the press and professional networking profiles. Some of it comes from commercial providers of business data, who compile and sell professional contact records and company information. The rest comes from the person directly, when they answer one of our messages, fill in a contact form or speak with us on the telephone or in a meeting.
Why we use it. We use this information to form a view on whether what we offer could matter to a person's role, to write to them at work about that possibility, and to check an address before we write to it, which keeps us from sending to dead or mistaken addresses. When someone replies, we use their details to answer them and, if they ask, to discuss and provide our services. We maintain a suppression list, a standing record of everyone who has asked us to stop, and that list is how such a request stays honored. We also use information as needed to keep our systems secure and to meet legal obligations. Our sending settings do not record whether an email has been opened, and we do not track opens.
How to make us stop. Anyone who does not want to hear from us can reply to any of our emails, in any words, and we will stop. There is no required phrase and no form to complete. If we have called, telling the caller is enough. We act on these requests promptly and always within ten business days. To make the request stick, the person's name and address go onto the suppression list, and that list is checked before every send, so the person is left alone even if their details reach us later from a different source.
Who else sees the information. Personal information is never sold or rented by us, nor passed to other companies for their own marketing or for targeted advertising. It leaves our hands in only three circumstances. First, to service providers who act on our instructions, including providers of email and mailbox services, email verification, business data, and hosting and storage; each is permitted to handle the information solely in providing that service to us. Second, to public authorities where the law requires it, or where disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, our safety or the safety of others. Third, to a buyer or successor of our business, who would be bound by this notice as it stands at the time.
Retention. Prospect records stay with us while they remain useful to the purposes above, and we remove records that have gone stale, for example when a person has left the employer we hold for them. Client and project records stay for the duration of the engagement and afterwards for as long as legal and accounting duties require. The suppression list lasts as long as we do any business outreach at all, because deleting an entry would defeat its purpose.
How we protect it. Only the staff and service providers who need the information for the uses this notice sets out can reach it, and the administrative and technical protections we use are the reasonable ones for business contact information. No storage or transmission method is entirely secure, so complete security is not something we can promise. We make no representation about encryption beyond what our service providers apply in the normal operation of their services.
Your choices and rights. Anyone we hold information about can ask us what we hold and its source, have it corrected, and have it deleted. The one exception to deletion is the entry on our suppression list, which stays in place to make sure we never write again. State privacy laws may give residents of particular states additional rights, including the right to know, to correct, to delete, and to refuse having their information sold or shared; since we neither sell it nor share it in that sense, that last right has nothing to bite on. We will not treat anyone differently for exercising a right. Requests can be made by replying to any message we have sent, via the form at https://edgewoodcg.com/contact/, or by writing to our postal address. To protect the person concerned we may confirm a request by writing to the address our message went to. Our answer will arrive within whatever period the relevant law sets. An agent with authority to act for someone can submit a request for them, and proof of the authority may be requested.
Children. Our services and this website are for businesses and the professionals who work in them. Information about anyone below the age of eighteen is not knowingly gathered by us, and if we learn that we hold some we delete it.
Location of processing. Edgewood Consulting Group operates from the United States and writes to professionals in the markets its clients sell in. Processing may take place wherever our service providers operate, and by using this site or corresponding with us you understand that information may be handled in those locations under this notice.
Changes to this notice. When we change this notice we update the effective date shown above the title. The version published here at any given time is the one that applies.
